Maat is, in Egyptian mythology, the goddess of cosmic harmony, rectitude (or moral conduct), order and balance of the world, equity, peace, truth and justice. She personifies all these concepts, and in this capacity she is the regulator of the course of the stars, of the seasons, as well as of the actions of mortals and gods who caused the chaos disorder at the moment of creation. She is the antithesis of isfet (chaos, injustice, social disorder, corruption, violence, malice...). Maât is the daughter of Re (solar god and creator) and companion of Thoth (learned god who taught hieroglyphics to men).
